| Nīmes has been founded in 25 before J.C by the roman emperor Auguste. The name of the city was "Nemausus" (Hercules' son). Its nickname was "little Rome" because there was 7 hills too. The name of Nīmes is famous all around the world owing to a man who made pants with a Nīmes' canvas. His name was Levi Strauss. Still today, the real LEVI'S is mark "denim". Alphonse DAUDET a well known writer and the couturier CACHAREL was born in Nīmes. |
